As much as I hate having to wade into the cesspool it’s a job that I’m often forced to do from time to time so you won’t have to.
You’re quite welcome.
Today over at R. Stacy McCain’s “The Other McCain” (another associate of Hoge’s and, no, I won’t be linking to it):
Let’s talk about R. Stacy McCain for a moment, just to get you familiarized with the players.
Robert Stacy McCain is a rabid Brett Kimberlin hater. He’s also a racist, having been identified as a member of the League of the South and once famously declared that “perfectly rational people have a natural revulsion” to interracial marriage (“perfectly rational”, of course, means “white people” such as himself). At his former job (from which he resigned, ostensibly passed the hemlock) at the Washington (Moonie) Times he was rather fond of neo-Confederate groups (had nothing but nice things to say about them) and was in breach of journalistic ethics when he routinely took to covering stories that he was personally involved in (such as neo-Confederate groups).
That’s pretty much all you need to know about him. That and he’s a sad, little man who sees grand liberal conspiracies lurking everywhere.
Oh, yeah…he, too, is also facing state and federal civil charges on defamation and libel.
Now, for those of you who have never read the Moonie Times, it’s a rag with a very right-wing slant.
The paper promotes all sorts of wingnut curiosities, including various pseudosciences such as creationism,anti-environmentalism, global warming denial, false claims about abortion and abstinence-only sex education and bigotry homophobia, transphobia, Islamophobia, anti-secularism and race science.
Why’s it called the Moonie Times? The paper is wholly owned by the Unification Church, founded by none other than Reverend Sun Myung Moon.
Go ahead and Google him. I’ll wait.
Are you back? Familiar with Reverend Moon? Good. Let’s continue…
The Moonie Times is forever playing second banana to The Washington Post and has been steadily hemorrhaging money since 1982 but, not to worry – the Unification Church has been propping up the Moonie Times through it’s wingnut welfare system to the tune of 1.7 billion dollars.
To recap: a wingnut journalist who is unashamedly racist, a wingnut newspaper that is unashamedly wingnut and formerly owned by the nuttiest wingnut religious leader ever.
Apparently, as well, the good people of Washington D.C. aren’t wrapping their fish, lining their birdcages or house-training their dogs.
This should tell you the caliber of R. Stacy McCain’s journo-fu – yes, weaksauce and no reputable newspaper company would ever hire him, which is why he’s taken to writing on his blog and panhandling donations.
Let’s analyze this article penned by Mr. McCain, shall we?
In the first paragraph, McCain falls back on his old “lies, damn lies and Brett Kimberlin” saw. Anything Brett Kimberlin says, in McCain’s view, is not to be believed.
I invite you all to consider the source.
In the second paragraph he’s nonetheless shocked, SHOCKED I tell you, that the judge has flatly rejected the motion to dismiss the case. This is a regular occurrence, shouldn’t come as any surprise but yet he’s shocked.
Third paragraph: he references Hoge because this is how the wingnut echo chamber works: one of them says it, then they all say it. Repeat a lie often enough and all that…
In the fourth paragraph he repeats the insinuation that Brett Kimberlin has forged documents and submitted them to the court yet he makes no assertion Brett Kimberlin forged documents. No, Bobby, you just let Hoge do it for you but nice use of the word “apparently”.
I’m sorry, but there’s nothing apparent about it. It’s pretty much the same SOP where you make an assertion Brett Kimberlin is up to no good, the judge will see that Brett Kimberlin is up to no good and then the judge goes and agrees with Brett Kimberlin as you stand there rationalizing that the judge is a Kimberlin plant.
So far you along with Hoge are batting zero. I don’t expect this is going to change anytime soon.
Last paragraph: the fight will continue.
Yes, and so will the mockery.
